Coming Soon

To help celebrate the release of Propellerhead's latest product (which is a true gem IMO) I thought I'd release my first refill designed with the Record artist in mind.Without a doubt my favorite feature in Record is the addition of the Line6 device and the amp/cab models. These are great devices and have great tones. They can be used on just about anything but really shine of course when you run a guitar through them. They really sparkle if you have the add-on packs. But, there are many people who don't have a the greatest command of the guitar or have no guitar skills at all who may be missing out on a great deal of fun. I know because I felt like one of them. I may be a step or two past "Smoke on the Water" but not much. But I love guitar in my tracks.
This is why I developed "Lizard's guitar for Record". There is no doubt that the best guitar sound is a real guitar being played by a musician who in fact CAN play. It isn't even an argument. But when you can't try this one on for size. This is a tool to get somewhat believable fretwork into your production. Perhaps some basic power chords or riffs. Maybe even a solo. You may even achieve some real intricate stuff. Strangely, your level of guitar playing with this refill depends on your level of keyboard playing. Kind of funny when you think about it. :D
Why is this one different? Well it has been inspired by the same style of programming that went into the Reason Electric Bass. This small refill utilizes multi-samples as well as velocity layers. It also employs the use of "key switching" on keys C0 and C#0 where the sample set switches from single notes into either "power chords" or mutes strings. The mod wheels can also be used in different ways depending on the sample set where increasing changes the sustain level or in the case of the mutes, it provides shorter mutes. The patches also accept "aftertouch" so that when pressed you can control the level of "wah effect" when it is enabled in the Line6 device. I designed it with functionality in mind. You shouldn't have to load two or three different patches to have to get some variety.

Thor CZ Refill is here!

The Thor Polysonic Synthesizer is not only an incredible tool for new and inventive sound design but also remains faithful to classic synths with its ability to accurately emulate vintage equipment of the past. In this particular refill we take focus of Thor's ability to create authentic Casio CZ patches through its phase distortion ocillator. The refill contains 96 patches in Thor and Combinator instruments, 4 tutorial/template files and a document discussing the CZ architecture and approach to emulation within Thor. For those who have owned one of the CZ-101/1000 synthesizers will appreciate the first 16 patches of this refill which are almost identical to the factory presets that shipped with the original units.

Now Available

This is a refill have been reluctant to release for a long time. There have been several reaons behind not doing so but primarily I felt it didn't offer much that Thor couldn't do. It was in partial completion stage when R4 was introduced and I had decided to shelve it at that time. And quite honestly, there are a few P6 refills out there already. The community risked being poly-ed out.
However this set of samples was dear to me since the Polysix was the very first synth I owned when I purchased it way back in 1983. In review of this work, I felt that it made a conscious effort to capture some of the abilities that the original unit had including unision/mono mode and chord memory. As it may not have a huge impact in the average refill library, it does offer authenticity, programing examples and a few interesting layered patches.
So now it's out there. I also had a few patches in there that were R4 and decided to omit them. This one I believe to be R3 freindly containing no devices that are native to the newest version of Reason. This has variances on 60+ sampled patches. Over 150 Combis in all. Hope it has some value to some one.

We will now be supporting Thor Patches
Reason 4 has finally been released! This is the largest update to any version of reason yet improving the application on just about every level. Among the several new and improved features, we here at CombinatorHQ are blown over by the Mighty God Thor (isn't everybody else?) In support of R4 and Combinator making in general we now support Thor Patches! Truth be told, we support all patches Thor or not. Subs and Malstrom amongst others have a nice little place in our Raw Materials section. Afterall, If you are going to create amazing Combinator patches, why go somewhere else to get great building blocks for them. Look for Thro patches in the near future! |
